Voter Information & FAQ

Which forms of photo identification are accepted?

Texas accepts seven forms of photo ID: a Texas Driver License, Election Identification Certificate, Texas Personal ID Card, Texas Handgun License, U.S. Military ID Card, U.S. Citizenship Certificate with photo, or a U.S. Passport. All IDs must be current or expired for less than four years.

Who is eligible to vote by mail in the state of Texas?

Eligibility for mail-in ballots is restricted to specific categories: voters who are 65 years or older, individuals with a sickness or physical disability, voters who will be out of their county during the entire voting period, or those who are expected to give birth within three weeks of election day.

What is the deadline for updating my voter registration?

Your voter registration must be submitted or postmarked at least 30 days before the date of the election. If you have moved or changed your name, you must update your records with the county elections office within the same timeframe to maintain your eligibility.

Can I use a student ID at my local polling location?

Student IDs are not currently accepted for voting in Texas. If you do not have one of the seven approved photo IDs, you may use a supporting form of ID—such as a current utility bill or bank statement—and sign a Reasonable Impediment Declaration detailing why you could not obtain photo identification.
